I decided to kick off the year with a 10 day photography adventure in the coffee region of Colombia.  Last year I spent a good portion of my time working around the globe and teaching workshops (including teaching a 3 day workshop on CreativeLIVE and giving several presentations at my favorite camera store, B&H Photo).  I have had a lot of creative ideas floating around in my head and needed a personal project to help bring some of ideas to fruition.  Colombia has always fascinated me because of the incredibly diverse culture and sheer beauty of the country;  I'm excited to be back in South America doing what I love most (SHOOTING!!!). To top it all off, I'm shooting video of the whole trip!

I didn't want to do the trip alone,  so I put out a message on facebook/twitter to see if anyone wanted tag along.  Within a couple of hours I had two photographers and a translator on the phone mapping out the trip that would take us through the coffee region from Medellin to Salento, Colombia.  we are currently on day 4 of the journey in Manizales.  So far we have managed to shoot indigeouns indians, los campesinos, traditional Paisas and we have a commercial shoot lined up for tomorrow (bikinis or something semi-naked). If you aren't sure about campesinos and Paisas, watch the upcoming videos. 

Be sure to check out a series of new videos that will be rolling out over the next couple of weeks.  I'm going to edit when I can along the road.  Videos are going to include an immense amount of different lighting equipment, techniques on lighting (silly string, genius square, butt light, etc.), working with models, the creative thought process and of course all the craziness that happens along the way.  I'm stoked to be in the presence of a talented group of guys:  Rob - pro photographer and musician who also is our designated tech guy/stunt man, Marcello - day trader/world traveler by day who is translating, navigating and negotiating, and finally Troy - pro photographer, videorgrapher and coordinator of all things on this trip.  if we need to wake up at 5:00 am to shoot models, Troy is our man.  He's also the director of all the videos and setting up shoots along the way.
