Textures - Two Minute Tuesday
Textures and Blend Modes - Two Minute Tuesdays!
Hello everyone, we apologize since we keep going over the two minute mark. When we came up with 2 minute Tuesdays we really thought we could keep them under 2 minutes....but sometimes it's just impossible.
Today's two minute Tuesday is all about the Blend Modes and textures in Photoshop. Blend Modes are an awesome way to turn a regular image into that wow image. So what do we mean by Blend Modes, it's basically taking two images and blending them together in Photoshop!
We use it a lot and it really is pretty basic.
Blend Modes are one of Photoshop's coolest features because it allows one image to merge with another image, creating something that is out of the norm. Sometimes we will look at images and say, "hmmm, it's just boring". That is our que to bring out the textures and start playing.

The first thing is to note that we are always looking for images of textures and all around weird scenes. Over the years we have created a huge library of textures and most of them are nice to look at, but do not work when blended. So experiment, don't get frustrated if the cool texture you took is not working, it's simply part of the process. Also, a quick hint, shiny reflective stuff is really cool!

Let's continue, the Blend Modes are located in the layer's palette. Select the layer (make sure it's in Blue and on top of the layer you want to fuse it to) that you want to change the Blend Mode. Click on where it says Normal and a huge list will pop out.

Simply select a blend mode from this list and the effect will be shown. There are many different types of blend modes and in most cases it's best to experiment with each before making a final decision. Some of our personal favorites are SOFT LIGHT, HARD LIGHT and OVERLAY.

This is the texture image that we fused into our original file. This texture is a reflective scratched up metal piece we found somewhere. We usually take these texture images with a point and shoot, it's not necessary to have these extremely high resolution files, but it's completely up to you.

This is the original image and if you put your mouse over it, you will see the one with the textures on top of it. Very cool effect that will surely give your images a nice pop.
Alright people, go out and experiment with blend modes and textures. We love doing this and we think you will too. It's all about being creative and making your images stand out!
